The Restore MTSD Campaign

How We Plan to Restore Excellence, Engagement and Trust:

Restore MTSD is a campaign dedicated to returning the Mequon-Thiensville School District to the premiere school district in Wisconsin. More than 4,400 residents signed the recall of four MTSD board members, desiring change in the district. We are dedicated to treating this call with urgency and bringing new leadership to the board through a non-partisan election.

RESTORE MTSD has three areas of direct focus: Excellence, Engagement and Trust.

Restore Excellence:

Academic Excellence should drive a district’s metrics and priorities. Over the past six years, scores have slipped and students have been left behind. Our campaign will ensure that Mequon’s academic rigor is restored and that every child succeeds.

____________

Refocus

Refrain from hiring additional MTSD District Office personnel and instead review current contracts. Our focus will be centered on the hiring of educators who provide direct instruction to MTSD students.

Review

Review the transition from a semester to trimester system in 2012, in order to investigate any potential correlations between trimesters and declining academic achievement.

Reward

Enhance strategies to increase compensation for our instructors and attract the caliber of educators we have come to expect. The needs of those on the front lines of our children's education will come before buildings and administrators.

Candidates Speak about Excellence

Restore candidates Cheryle Rebholz, Scarlett Johnson and Kris Kittell provide further thoughts on restoring excellence in MTSD.

Restore Engagement:

Parents and teachers are at the core of learning and deserve a voice in educational decisions. Our campaign will ensure that every stakeholder has a voice and is a part of the final product.

____________

Reshape

Update MTSD board policy to allow teachers to communicate with board members.  This will ensure that the needs of our most important leaders are met.

Reconnect

Establish a committee of MTSD parents to oversee curriculum choices and their implementation (standing committee, Finance, Building and Grounds, Recreation Department).

Represent

Engage the community by hosting informal listening sessions outside of the formal board meetings, so that all Mequon-Thiensville community members may voice their views.

Candidates Speak about Engagement

Restore candidates Scarlett Johnson, Kris Kittell and Charles Lorenz provide further thoughts on restoring engagement in MTSD.

Restore Trust:

Our systems will work only if we believe that our leaders are capable of making tough decisions that lead to the best outcomes. Fiscal stewardship is a critical component of stakeholder trust.

____________

Respond

Recommit to transparency by adhering to all board policies and WI Statutes regarding responsiveness to open records requests, emails, and letters from all stakeholders.

Reassure

Retain services of an independent forensic auditor to conduct an audit on finance and communications, ensuring that all stakeholders have total confidence that their tax dollars were and are being properly managed and spent.
